As summer continues, we wish the educator community days filled with relaxation and new memories made. The staff at Authentic Exploration Matters is looking ahead to our two Discovery Day events this fall as well as plans for two exciting trip possibilities next year! So keep your eyes open for future information. We will be hosting a Discovery Day workshop in August with ORCA(the Ocean Research and Conservation Association) in Vero Beach. This is an amazing opportunity to learn how a local topic can be integrated into data collection and analyzing, environmental sciences, and more! The second Discovery Day will be held in October with Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach. That workshop will highlight coastal habitats. You can register and pay for both workshops on our website here. We hope to see you there!
This week, our Resource Roundup, features a topic our AEM Educator Ambassador, Tanja Bock would like to highlight. Tanja has always had a love for the environment. This includes the ocean and all life within, and dependent upon it. Connecting students with the world of Ocean Education can be a fulfilling and exciting one that offers a myriad of topics and activities to foster a love for the world’s oceans.
Helping students explore and unlock the mysteries of the ocean ecosystems can be a catalyst to inspiring future generations to be planet stewards. Rudy Bonn, Reef Relief Director of Marine Projects, once said “We understand the importance of educating the younger generations that will have to face and attempt to solve the many challenges that we are now encountering with regards to the health and sustainability of the marine sciences.” She then goes on to say the following in regards to ocean education, “Students learn how to socialize with their peers, how to have fun while learning, and how to develop a caring attitude about the Earth and the Ocean and the courage to make their voices heard when the time comes.”
With this in mind, we have provided a few resources to get you started. Looking for something more specific on this topic, or another? Simply reach out to AEM and we will see how we can help you!
