Hello educator community! We hope that everyone had a safe and fun Independence Day! AEM had the pleasure of joining a group of educators for a mesmerizing kayaking excursion as we experienced the magic of bioluminescence! When asked what their most memorable part of the experience was, answers included watching the water “light up”, seeing dolphins and manatees up close, watching swimming fish light up the water, and simply taking in the beauty of the night sky as we were so far removed from artificial light sources. We look forward to doing this again next year! Upcoming we are featuring two different PD opportunities.
You can access more information about those on our website. If you would like to participate, please note that payment for the Discovery Day PD workshops is to be made on our website(unless otherwise noted). Space is limited! Our first back to school workshop will be in Vero Beach as we join ORCA - Ocean Research and Conservation Association to learn about their efforts to improve the health of the Indian River Lagoon estuary. This is a great chance to see how a local topic can help elevate data collection, data analysis, and ways to express data to the public. Participants will also be trained to help ORCA with their “A Day In The Life” program and get students to be a part of a large scientific data gathering event! You can email me, Kirstin Cowan, at this address or check out our website for more information.
This week we join AEM Educator Ambassdor Ana Nunez, a teacher at St Marks. Ana has a passion for finding ways to authentically connect with her students. She does this as she understands that creating strong connections with her students is a key to nurturing both their emotional and intellectual abilities. She shares a few insights from her teaching career that highlight why she values the time she invests in getting to know her students and creating strong relationships with them.
Following Ana’s insights, you will find four resources that align with her chosen highlighted topic. Simply click the image next to each description and you will be directly linked to the resources from The American Psychological Association, Harvard, Edutopia, and Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center.
Looking for resources and/or connections on a different topic? Simply email me and the team at Authentic Exploration Matters will see how we can help you!
